Drosera sessilifolia, Snap Tentacle Sundew, live carnivorous plant, potted

Drosera sessilifolia, Snap Tentacle Sundew, live carnivorous plant, potted

This is a wonderful, small sundew from South America! It is a beautifully rossetted shape with spoon shaped leaves. It is one of the most reactive sundews with snap tentacles that grasp on to its prey. The leaves are green with red hairs that hold the dew. The flower stalks are tall and thin with many lightly pink flowers. They are sequential bloomers but the flowers are short lived. The plants are quite small at approximately 2-3 cm at mature size. Often confused with D burmannii. They require no dormancy and prefer subtropical conditions. They primarily grow as an annual but can be perennial if the flower stalk is removed as soon as it emerges. They are excellent at catching small insects like ants, mosquitoes, and gnats. They grow well indoors in a sunny windowsill. They are blooming size and in a 2" pot.

Drosera Care: Sundews do best in partial shade to full sun. They are well suited for growing on window ledges or outdoors during warm months. They must be watered with non-chlorinated water preferably with a low TDS (between 0 and 25ppm). You can use rain water, RO or distilled. Allow to dry slightly but not completely in between waterings. When watering, place plants in a tray and pour water in tray about 1/2” (referred to as the tray method). Avoid watering the crown of the plant. Temperature should be maintained between 60°F and 85°F. They are not too particular about humidity requirements. If your Drosera has little to no dew, increase light. They generally do well in open terrariums.

*Never use fertilizers or soils with salts, minerals, or added fertilizers
